Sandusky County/One adult, five children injured in crash near Clyde

A woman from Fremont faces possible charges after a one-vehicle crash near Clyde in Sandusky County.

Troopers say, 33 year old Melissa Leiby lost control of her vehicle Saturday night, struck a culvert and landed in a creek.

Leiby and 5 children were taken to hospitals in Fremont and Toledo.

Troopers believe, alcohol or drugs might have played a factor in the crash.

 

Erie County/Sandusky mother allegedly threatens to kill daughter

A 71-year-old Sandusky woman was arrested Saturday after she allegedly threatened to kill her daughter.

Betty Chaney was charged with a threat of domestic violence.

Police say that Chaney allegedly admitted to making the threat; telling police she did not like the way her daughter cared for her children.

 

State News/Ohio 2nd highest death rate for drug deaths

Ohio ranks second in death rate for drug overdoses…in new figures released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The death rate for Ohio last year was 46.3 per 100,000 residents; second to only West Virginia.

Ohio has spent about a billion dollars per year in an attempt to battle the opioid epidemic.

Nebraska had the lowest rate at 8.1 percent.

Over 70,000 people died nationwide in 2017 due to drug overdoses; a national average of 21.7.

 

Lorain County/Columbia Gas shutdown

Students in Elyria are returning to school today.

They had Friday off…as Columbia Gas worked to restore service to about 25-hundred customers in the Eastern Heights area.

Columbia Gas says, service has been restored to all homes that technicians could access.  Yesterday, crews were trying to access the final 100 homes.

This week, Columbia Gas workers will return to repair any yards, driveways or roads affected by their work, although some work might have to be finished in the spring

Again, residents are warned against relighting appliances by themselves…Columbia Gas workers will inspect and relight appliances after gas service has been restored.

 

Huron County/Sales tax numbers

Latest sales tax numbers for Huron County…

The latest report reflects August sales…with sales tax already at nearly 101 percent of the estimate for 2018; according to auditor Roland Tkach.

Liquor sales increased 11-and-a-half percent compared to the same time frame a year ago.

 

Erie County/Vermilion fire station

Tonight, Vermilion City Council is expected to consider plans for building a new fire station.

It would be built at Devon and Douglas, and replace the city’s current facility.
