Erie County/Storm damage

Storms rumbled through the listening area last night, reportedly causing damage in Erie County.

In Margaretta Township, the Sheriff’s Department says State Route 101 remains closed this morning from Maple Avenue to Main Street due to several utility lines, poles and trees down.


Erie County/Man convicted in 2017 Sandusky shooting death

The Cleveland man convicted of shooting and killing a Sandusky man last year has been sentenced to 49 years in prison.

In April, an Erie County jury found 31-year-old Joel Myles guilty in the August 2017 death of Anthony Pearson, which occurred in Sandusky’s MacArthur Park.

Those guilty charges included murder, two counts of having weapons under disability and cocaine trafficking.

Miles said he looks to appeal his case with a different lawyer.


Huron County/Injury accident on State Route 61

Police say a Plymouth motorcycle driver was hurt Friday evening after reportedly trying to avoid a car coming at him in the other direction.

30-year-old Daniel Brown of Willard, while going north on State Route 61, drove left of center to pass stopped vehicles as 45-year-old Dan Elliot was riding north on his cycle.

Elliot was taken to Willard Mercy Health Hospital after going off the road and then overturning on the roadway.

Brown was charged with driving on the left side of the road while Elliot faces a charge of a violation of motorcycle rules.


Ottawa County/Injury crash on State Route 2

A teenage boy and girl were hurt in a two-vehicle crash last night in Ottawa County that involved a semi.

The State Highway Patrol says a Honda Civic driven by Simon Arnold of Clyde with passenger Gabrielle Clark of Sandusky struck the rear of the semi after running a stop sign at the intersection of Humphrey Road and State Route 2 in Carroll Township.

Both Arnold and Clark were taken to a Toledo hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


Sandusky County/Sex offender’s punishment upheld

A Fremont man convicted of having a relationship with a 14-year-old girl has had his prison sentence upheld by a state appeals court.

39-year-old Thomas Kubat is facing 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to five counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in 2013.

He originally was charged with rape, but that offense was dropped.

The court said his appeal lacked merit after Kubat argued that his prison sentence was unsupported by evidence.


Erie County/Drive-thru restaurant OVI arrest

A 40-year-old Sandusky woman was arrested for multiple drunken driving charges after she allegedly repeatedly rammed the vehicle in front of her in a fast-food restaurant drive-thru line.

Tangela Davis was charged early Sunday morning with OVI, transporting an open container of liquor and driving under license forfeiture.


Richland County/Shelby police investigating damage allegedly done by semi

Shelby Police are gathering information about a semi that reportedly caused damage to homes after knocking down a number of phone and cable lines.

Authorities say it happened between 7 and 8 Monday morning on Park Avenue.


Erie County/Ceylon Road (State Route 61) closure

Ceylon Road (State Route 61), at its intersection with State Route 113 in Erie County, will be closed most of this week for a culvert replacement.

ODOT says they expect to reopen the road on Friday.


Erie County/Fair begins today

The Erie County Fair gets underway this morning in Sandusky.

Tonight’s highlights include the Fair King and Queen Pageant as well as kart races and the lawn mower derby.

The fair runs through Sunday.
