Erie-Huron County/Bicycle hit-skip crash

A hit-skip accident that left a bicycle rider seriously injured in Milan Township early Wednesday is under investigation.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said a car struck a bicyclist on Milan Road, south of Ohio 13 and then allegedly fled the scene.

The bike rider, who has yet to be identified, was taken by medical helicopter to a Cleveland hospital with unknown serious injuries.

Anyone with information should contact authorities.


Erie-Huron County/Milan man to prison on drug charges

One of four people arrested in a drug bust last year in Norwalk is going to prison for 4-and-a-half-years.

44-year-old Randy Myers of Milan has pled guilty to drug trafficking and the illegal conveyance of drugs in connection with the Fruen Street raid last November.


Erie County/Hotel swimming pool could close/Closed motel case

A hotel’s swimming pools at U.S. 250 and Mason Road in Milan could soon be shut down due to alleged health and safety violations.

According to the Sandusky Register, the Erie County Health Department is preparing to go to the Erie County Prosecutor’s office as they look to take away the license for the Quality Inn’s pools and spa.

The Health Department says that they also discovered swimmers in a hotel pool that was supposed to be closed.

Meanwhile…an Erie County judge is expected to announce a verdict today in a case against a motel owner accused of re-opening the establishment after it was shut down by authorities for alleged health and safety issues.

The Howard Johnson Inn on Milan Road in Perkins Township was closed earlier this year, but was reportedly re-opened under a new name in early July.

Owner Raghbir Virk said he was told he could open back up after fixing and cleaning the rooms in violation, which health department officials say was not true…with some rooms reportedly still in rough shape.


Erie County/Cedar Fair says numbers are down/Witches’ Wheel

Cedar Point’s parent company, Cedar Fair, says bad weather is part of the blame for lower attendance and revenue throughout their parks.

Attendance is down 3 percent…with net revenues down 2 percent from the same time frame a year ago.

Locally, company officials say occupancy rates and room rates are up at Cedar Point-owned hotels, thanks in part to the Sports Force Parks outdoor sports facility, which they say has exceeded expectations.

In other Cedar Point news…a well known ride will be soon be gone as the park has announced that the Witches’ Wheel will be removed after Labor Day to make way for future expansion.

The ride first opened in 1977.


Erie County/Bogart-Campbell Roundabout near completion

Erie County’s first roundabout should be open and accessible in the next two to three weeks.

Officials justified the need for the $700,000 traffic circle at West Bogart Road and Campbell Street in Perkins Township after 24 crashes took place there between 2003 and 2013.


State News/Great Lakes Restoration project

$300 million in funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative was approved by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

The U.S. House previously approved the money.

The initiative provides money to programs for the betterment and protection of Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes.


Erie County/Eagle Scout project at Sandusky State Theatre

A Sandusky Boy Scout plans on fixing up a main dressing room at the Sandusky State Theatre for his Eagle Scout project.

Joseph Didion recently held a fundraiser to help him pay for renovations of the room that hasn’t seen much attention in around 30 years.

Didion is expected to start the project in September and be done by January.
