Huron County/Serious injury crash

Four Sandusky residents were hurt; two of them seriously, in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Huron County.

The highway patrol says a car driven by 53-year-old John Lee Brake with three passengers was hit head-on by a dump truck after turning from Ohio 60 onto Ohio 18 in Clarksfield Township.

Two passengers, 40 year-old Heather Brake and an 11 year-old girl, were both flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.


Erie County/Bed tax extended

After three recent public forums, Erie County officials have agreed to extend the bed tax.

The new legislation keeps the bed tax rate at four percent; but extends it to all places with at least one bed,

The law previously stated properties with four or fewer beds were exempt from taxation.

Money made from the taxes may only be put towards promotion of local tourism.


Sandusky/Warren Street to get improvements

Improvements are coming to a road known as Sandusky’s worst.

City commissioners have given their OK to a $40,000 project later this year involving new pavement and the filling in of potholes on Warren Street.


Put-In-Bay/Perry’s Monument to reopen this weekend

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Put-In-Bay will re-open this Saturday at 10:00 am.

The landmark was shut down last year for a $2.4 million maintenance project, which included the restoration of doors that were vandalized in 2017.

In honor of the monument turning 103 years old, the first 103 adults to visit the deck on Saturday will ride the elevator for free.


Monroeville/Living history event this weekend

A living history event is planned for this Saturday in Monroeville in celebration of the town’s 150th anniversary.

Starting at 12 noon in Clark Park, historical interpreters will hold discussions and demonstrations involving various periods of American history.

A program will also be held at 2:00 pm at Riverside Cemetery along with a ghost walk at 8:30 pm.


State News/Ohio State Fair music lineup addition

The entertainment line-up is taking shape for this year’s Ohio State Fair in Columbus.

The Beach Boys have been added to previously-announced shows featuring country stars Reba McIntyre and Brothers Osborne, and a twin-bill featuring classic-rockers Styx and Cheap Trick.

The Ohio State Fair opens July 25th.
