New London/Girl in foster care after parking lot dragging incident

A 13-year-old girl is in protective custody of an Erie County foster home after allegedly being dragged across a parking lot by her father in New London last week while she was tied up with zip-ties.

39-year-old John Hofacker has been charged with unlawful restraint.

Hofacker reportedly told authorities he tied her up because she was trying to run away.

 

Bellevue-Fremont/Man facing vehicular homicide charge

A Bellevue man has been charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide.

Last June, 46-year-old Christopher Ferguson suffered serious injuries after he allegedly drove off the road and hit a tree head-on, which killed passenger Rodney Lewis.

Authorities say Ferguson was allegedly impaired as he drove.

The crash took place in Ballville Township, south of Fremont.

 

Fremont/Accused teen murderer allegedly assaults corrections officers

A teenager from Fremont accused of murder was in court Wednesday for allegedly assaulting corrections officers.

The Sandusky Register reports that 14-year-old Elijah Starks was charged with five counts of assault from incidents last month at the Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Center.

He entered a denial plea to those charges.

Starks, who could be tried as an adult, allegedly shot and killed his 14-year-old cousin in September of 2017.

 

Norwalk/False robbery claim

Authorities say a Norwalk man’s claim of being robbed and threatened last Saturday…were not true.

35-year-old John McBride has been charged with making false alarms and falsification.

During their investigation, Norwalk police say they learned McBride gave someone money for marijuana, with that person never coming back.

McBride originally said he was near Bouscay (Busky) and Whittlesey Avenues when he walked through an apartment complex and was threatened by a man with a knife, who took $35.

 

Norwalk/Levy request

The first step in putting a levy on the November ballot has been approved by the Norwalk school board.

A resolution passed earlier this week on a 10-year renewal emergency levy by a 4-1 vote.

 

Norwalk/Huron Co. Safe Communities Coalition seat belt event

To kick-off the “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign, Huron County Safe Communities Coalition will be hosting a event later this month.

Taking place May 23rd in front of the Huron County Courthouse in Norwalk, county representatives and law enforcement officials will discuss traffic safety, the importance of wearing a seat belt and local and state enforcement efforts.
