Erie-Ottawa Counties/Flooding closes roads

Steady rain over the weekend caused some flooding in Erie and Ottawa County.

Roadways closed due to high water included Route 53 between Port Clinton and Fremont, First Street in Sandusky and a portion of the Cedar Point causeway.

The Lake Erie islands region also saw significant flooding including Kelley’s Island and Put-in-Bay.

 

Huron County/Three fatal traffic crashes reported so far in 2018

According to The Huron County Safe Communities Coalition, three fatal crashes took place in the county during the first quarter of 2018.

There were no fatal crashes in Huron County last year at this time.

 

Norwalk/Huron County Sheriff’s Volunteer Citizen’s Academy

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a free, Volunteer Citizen’s Academy throughout the month of May.

The 4-week program will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 pm at Norwalk High School; where sheriff’s office personnel will look to create a better understanding of what they do as well as build a partnership with the community.

Applications can be picked up and returned to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; with a deadline of next Monday, April 23rd.

 

Port Clinton/Man charged with rape

A Port Clinton man has been charged with 50 counts of rape after a jury in Ottawa County returned a secret indictment in a decade-old case.

57-year-old Richard Rose Junior is accused of raping a very young girl several times from 2000 to 2005.

 

Perkins Township/Teenagers in big trouble

Three teenagers from Perkins Township were all charged Friday with felony burglary and vandalism.

18-year-olds Jerry Fantozzi, Tanner Nesbit and D’Hani Aaron are accused of recently breaking into a vacant home on Tremper Avenue in Perkins.

 

Sandusky/Patrol arrests man for 7th OVI

The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that they arrested a 29-year-old man for his 7th lifetime OVI on Friday.

According to the patrol, Justin Dennis of Sandusky was stopped for a marked lanes violation on State Route 2 in Perkins Township on Friday morning.

The patrol says Dennis has 6 prior convictions through courts in Bowling Green and Sandusky.

 

Berlin Heights/Vietnam soldier to be remembered along roadway

A stretch of road in Erie County will soon be named after a Berlin Heights man who lost his life serving in the army in the Vietnam War.

A bill was recently passed to re-name a section of Ohio 61 between Ohio 113 and Mason Road after Army Sergeant David Sexton.

If all goes as planned, signs proclaiming “Sgt. David Sexton Memorial Highway” will be in place by Memorial Day.

 

Wellington/Lorain County Fair 2018 concert lineup

The Lorain County Fair has announced their grandstand musical entertainment for 2018.

Classic rock band Grand Funk Railroad takes the stage Monday, August 20th in Wellington; with 90’s/early 2000’s country star Neal McCoy in concert on Tuesday, August 21st.

Tickets go on sale May 21st.

 

Norwalk/Hydrant flushing

Spring hydrant flushing begins this week in Norwalk.

Flushing may result in discolored water with residents asked to run cold water for around 15 minutes or until water is clear.

The hydrant flushing program is expected to last two weeks.
