Willard has a new mayor

Willard Mayor Todd Shininger has retired after over 20 years of service.

Councilman Joe Daniel was nominated and elected by city council as the new mayor.

Charles Danhoff will serve as vice mayor.

 

Attorney for O’Connell faces criminal charges

With the trial of Sandusky County sheriff’s detective Sean O’Connell looming in March, the attorney representing O’Connell faces some legal issues of his own.

53 year-old Christopher Fiegl, with a law office in Fremont, has been charged with assault and resisting arrest in connection with an incident last month at Hollywood Casino in Toledo.

O’Connell faces criminal charges related to the homicide investigation into the 2015 death of Heather Bogle.

 

Long time fire chief steps down

After a 40-plus-year career in firefighting, Tom Beck has stepped down from the position of fire chief of the Huron River Joint Fire District.

Beck’s last day was Sunday, with Norwalk Fire Lieutenant Curt Stang taking over.

Beck was also a fourth-generation fire chief in Monroeville during his career.

 

Norwalk’s first baby of 2018 born Tuesday

The first baby of 2018 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk was born Tuesday morning.

Norwalk’s Heather Rader welcomed in son, Dalton, at six pounds, 11 ounces.

 

New police chief for Plymouth

Plymouth has a new police chief.

Long time chief Charlie Doan recently retired after over 42 years in law enforcement; 22 of those with Plymouth.

Former Assistant Chief Thomas Hintz, who’s been on the force in Plymouth since 1999, took over as the new chief on Monday.

Doan will continue to serve the village though, after winning a spot on Plymouth Village Council back in November.

 

Firelands Electric Co-op looking for new member

Firelands Electric Co-op is in search of a new board member.

This follows the recent passing of District 2 Trustee Lowell Kreager.

Those interested in being an interim trustee must live in the townships of Blooming Grove, Cass, Greenwich, New Haven, Ripley or Ruggles.

Applications are available online at www.firelandsEC.com; and must be turned in by the end of the month.

 

Norwalk Christmas tree pickup information…

Christmas tree pickup in Norwalk will take place next week.

Starting Monday, residents may place their trees out on their lawn for pickup on their regular trash day.

The city asks for tree stands to be removed, to not place the tree in a bag and to not use a rope around the tree.
