Texas man charged in Maple City Ice incident

A man from Texas has been charged with assault in relation to an incident at or near Maple City Ice in Norwalk involving Teamsters and independent truck drivers.

38 year-old Jose Carbajal faces a first-degree misdemeanor in the incident last month where workers have been on strike since September 1st in a dispute over pension money.

The independent truck driver is believed to have hit an out-of-town Teamster driver in the head with a billy club after reportedly feeling threatened.


Snapchat rape suspect to change plea

The 77 year-old Danbury Township man who was allegedly caught raping a 20 year-old woman on social media will be back in court this week for a plea change hearing.

James Allen pleaded not guilty in August to rape and sexual battery charges for the alleged sexual assault that was reportedly filmed on the Snapchat mobile app.

The hearing is scheduled for Friday in Ottawa County Common Pleas Court.


Sandusky couple injured in pedestrian/car accident Tuesday

A  Sandusky elderly couple was hurt Tuesday afternoon when they were reportedly hit by a car in a restaurant parking lot.

Lawerence and Judith Bald both received leg injuries when they were walking out of Dianna’s Deli in Sandusky and were hit by a car driven by 90 year-old Salvatore Corso of Sandusky.


Voter registration deadline approaching

Area Board of Elections’ offices are reminding potential voters that the deadline to register to vote or change an address for next month’s general election is Tuesday, October 10th.

Places to register include: county board of election offices, license bureaus and libraries.

Election Day is November, 7th.


Study planned for U.S. 6 in Erie County

A study that could lead to enhancements of U.S. 6 in Erie County is in the works.

The one-year study, costing around $250,000, will cover Sycamore Line in Sandusky to Rye Beach Road in Huron along with Butler Street in Sandusky.  It could also include Rye Beach Road from Cleveland Road south to the Norfolk Southern train crossing, depending on costs.

The study is being done because of U.S. 6 being a major thoroughfare to Cedar Point and many businesses, as well as the new Sports Force park.


Ohio State Highway Patrol graduates 87 cadets
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s 162nd Academy Class graduated last week after half a year of intense training.

There were some local graduates from Erie and Huron County:

Jordan Cole and Cody McCoy, both of Milan, were assigned to the Norwalk Post; along with Jason Weaver of Greenwich.

Alex Schlottag of Sandusky was assigned to the Sandusky Post
