The new season officially arrived at 1:04 this morning. Starting tomorrow, we could have six straight days of 90 degree heat.
Groundbreaking was held yesterday, for a massive expansion in Willard.
Pepperidge Farm is spending $93 million, to expand Goldfish cracker production, at the plant on State Route 103. A number of company officials were on hand for yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony, along with elected officials, including Governor John Kasich. The project will take two years. Once it’s complete, 50 new jobs will be added.
Three finalists have been named, in the search for a new Huron City Schools superintendent.
The list includes Sandusky assistant superintendent Dennis Muratori, Indian Hill assistant superintendent Mark Ault, and Mark Robinson, who’s currently employed by the Ohio Department of Education. All three will be interviewed next week. The new superintendent will replace ousted superintendent Fred Fox.
The captains of the Norwalk Salvation Army are leaving.
Mike and Dianna Morales have been re-assigned to the Salvation Army in Warren, Ohio. Their last day in Norwalk will be this Sunday.
The search continues for a Lorain man accused of threatening to shoot a state trooper.
The Highway Patrol says 42-year-old Patrick Hammond pulled a gun on the trooper yesterday during a traffic stop in Wood County. Hammond ran from the scene. Troopers say he’s armed and dangerous and on federal probation for armed robbery.
On the job front…
Ohio’s May unemployment rate was 7 percent, unchanged from April. That’s actually lower than the U.S. average of 7.6 percent.

State lawmakers are preparing a state budget that includes massive tax cuts.
The leaders of the House and Senate unveiled plans yesterday to slash income taxes by nearly 18-percent over two years and whack small business taxes in half. They’re making up the difference with a quarter-percent hike in Ohio’s sales tax. Lawmakers must pass the budget by the end of the month.
The State Highway Patrol has announced that a DUI checkpoint will be held in Erie County tomorrow night.
The location will be announced tomorrow morning.
Some people are calling it the “Moon of Steel—Supermoon!”
This Sunday night, the full moon will be the biggest and brightest of the year, hence the term “Supermoon.”
